DIFFERENT KIDS OF RIVER - M

Marikina River (Tagalog: Ilog Marikina) is a main river system in Eastern Metro Manila. A river stretching from Rodriguez, Rizal to Pasig City that connects to Pasig River as major tributary near Napindan Area in Pasig City.

Marikina River used to be an important transport route during Spanish era. However, due to negligence and industrial development, the river has become very polluted. Also, squatters nearby simply dumped their garbage at the river. In the late 90's because of the dynamic transformation of Marikina City under Mayor Bayani Fernando the river has survived and now, one of the most important treasure in Marikina City.

The Marikina River flows in the center of Marikina Valley because of the mountain ranges of Sierra Madre on the east and Quezon City or Capitol Hills in Quezon City on the west. Marikina River is much known in Marikina City because the city itself maintain its rehabilitation of a river which is a good example in other cities not only in Metro Manila but in the Philippines for suviving neglected rivers and water systems. The river recognized as Hall of Famer for the Cleanest Inland Water in Metro Manila.

The Mindanao River, also known as the Rio Grande de Mindanao, is the largest river on the southern Philippine island of Mindanao. Approximately 320 km (200 miles) long, the river drains the majority of the eastern portion of the island, and is an important transportation artery.

Flowing out of the mountains, it forms the center of a broad, fertile plain in the south-central portion of the island. Before its mouth in the Moro Gulf, it splits into two parallel sections, the Cotabato and Tamentaka, separated by a 180 m (600 foot) hill.

The Molawin River, often also referred to as Molawin Creek, is a river system in Los Baños, Laguna in the Philippines. It is one of 21 Major tributaries of Laguna de Bay. However, the Laguna Lake Development Authority does not yet have river monitoring station on this river.

The length of the river is 8,970 meters, with 20 tributary streams (intermittent and perennial). Its headwaters can be found at an elevation of about 1020 masl, on the fabled Mount Makiling. Emptying into the southern part of Laguna de Bay at about 20 masl, its watershed has an area of 9.218 km2.

The Morong River (Tagalog: Ilog ng Morong), also referred to as the Morong-Teresa River, is a river system in Rizal, Philippines. It is one of 21 major tributaries of Laguna de Bay.
